Zamfara Lawmaker Empowers Fulani Women, Farmers With Cash, Items

The Federal lawmaker representing Maru/Bungudu constituency, Alhaji Shehu Ahmad, has donated cash and empowerment tools to over 200 constituents from Maru and Bungudu Local Government Areas of Zamfara.

The beneficiaries include Fulani, Women and Farmers.

The cash and items were disbursed on Saturday through the “Fulbe Care Initiative”, an NGO sponsored by the lawmaker.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the lawmaker said the gesture is aimed at eradicating poverty and unemployment among people of the constituency.

He said the beneficiaries comprised 105 women farmers and Fulani women who were supported with tailoring and grinding machines.

According to him, other beneficiaries include unemployed youths, women and small-scale traders from 21 Wards of Maru and Bungudu Local Government Areas.

“We also gave cash assistance of N100,000 to each of the 21 wards Chairmen of the People’s Democratic Party from the two LGAs. We consider this empowerment project very important to complement the efforts of both federal and state governments in tackling the insecurity bedeviling the state and other parts of the country”.

In his remark, Acting State PDP Chairman, Alhaji Hassan Damri, commended the lawmaker for his foresight to empower his constituents, especially from the grassroots.

“This is in line with the present PDP-led administration in the state under Governor Bello Matawalle. The state needs social intervention like this to remove people from poverty, unemployment and other social challenges”.

Earlier, the Director, Fulbe Care Initiative, Musa Aboki, urged the beneficiaries to utilize the tools and cash judiciously.

Aboki said “this is just the beginning, we have various programmes to implement and to empower people of the constituency, all we need is support and cooperation”.
