No fewer than 79 people were killed in 604 road accidents in Laos in October, according to the latest report from Lao Ministry of Public Security on Thursday.
According to the Traffic Police Department under the Lao Ministry of Public Security, there were 604 road accidents across the country in October, an increase of 107 accidents from the figures for September.
In the accidents in October, 79 people were killed, 864 others were injured and 1,074 vehicles were damaged.
Road accidents continue to kill or maim people across the country, with Savannakhet province recording the highest number of incidents.
Most road accidents occurred due to drunk driving and excessive speed, according to the report.
The traffic police had concentrated on a road safety campaign, especially in schools in a bid to reduce the rising toll of accidents.
The campaign provides information on traffic regulations and the dangers of careless driving.
It is aimed at helping students and others have a better understanding of traffic rules and the risks posed by road accidents. (Xinhua)
