Suspended Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Ms. Betta Edu will face a crack team of investigators at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC any time soon over a N585.2million scandal.
An official of the anti-graft agency confirmed to Scudnews on Monday that President Bola Tinubu has directed the Commission to investigate her.
“I am not awere if a letter of invitation has been sent to her but all I know is that the President has directed us to investigate Edu”, the official said when asked whether the minister has been officially summoned by the EFCC.
Meanwhile, reports indicated that Commission has detained a former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq, for questioning over allegations of corruption in the handling of N37.1 billion social intervention funds during her tenure.
Mrs. Umar-Farouq had arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja on Monday morning in honour of an earlier invitation over the pending case.
She posted via her X handle at 10.17 a.m. on Monday that she had just arrived at the commission’s office.
“I have, at my behest, arrived at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to honour the invitation by the anti-graft agency to offer clarifications in respect of some issues that the commission is investigating,” she tweeted.
