A humanitarian Organization, ActionAid Nigeria, on Tuesday, disbursed cash and non-food items worth N80 million to victims of aftermath of military search operation in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State.
The benefitting households numbering 2560 were drawn from eight affected communities and offered N14,500 each, in addition, bucket, blanket, wrappers etc.
Recall that the joint Military exercise, Operation Whirl Stroke, in April 2021 embarked on a raid of communities in Konshisha local government area of the state in a search and rescue operation over some missing soldiers and their weapons, following an ambushed by suspected armed bandits in Bonta village.
Presenting the cash and other items to to the beneficiaries, the country director, Action Aid Nigeria, Mrs. Christiana Obi, said the organization earmarked food and non food items for the victims at Gbinde, Gungul, Guleya, Wajir, Bonta, Agidi and Mbaakpur ameliorate their sufferings after their houses and other valuables were destroyed by the military.
Obi, who was represented by the Manager for Humanitarian Residents, ActionAid Nigeria, Mr. David Habba, disclosed that the organization will use N89 million rehabilitating the people and reconstructing the communities with a view to make live meaningful in the Konshisha.
According to him, this phase of intervention was mainly for food items but in cash form so that the beneficiaries would buy foodstuff of their choice while the next round intervention will involve donation of other relief materials like clothes, foot wears, buckets, dignity kits for women of reproductive age.
“We will also rehabilitate and construct water facilities in those areas so as to cushion the effect of water scarcity occasioned by the destruction of resources during the incident”.
Also speaking, Logistics Adviser  ActionAid Nigeria, Goodluck Omoh, said the non food items would further includes jerricans, mosquito nets, cups, spoons, plates and every household item that would enable the affected people bounce back to life.
He said the intervention would continue until all the profiled beneficiaries are reached and giving helping hands
Commenting on the humanitarian gesture, District Head (Tyoor) of Iwarnyam Council ward, Chief Lazarus Unaha Kõkõ, whose residence at Agidi community was also raised down during the military reprisal attack, appreciated ActionAid for given them succor.
 He urged the organization to sustain the selfless service to humanity, saying their action had already transformed several lives across Nigeria.
Some of the beneficiaries including Nyieva Tsenongo, Yaser Guruyar and Tyorumu Dooshima commended ActionAid Nigeria for coming to assist them in time of their needs.
They called on the organization to extend similar gesture to other people who are in such situations.
