A middle aged woman displayed a rare feat in Enugu State as she outwitted a gang of dare-devil armed men who launched a vicious attack on her.

Ego Ifije, a resident of Eze Ugo Street, Industrial Layout, Enugu, was driving a Mercedes-Benz 230 bearing number plate AZ 965 ENU on Tuesday, June 30, when she was accosted by robbers.

In an attempt to scare her stiff and force her to a halt, they broke the windshield on the driver’s side of the car and pointed a gun at her. But she bravely maneuvered the vehicle on full throttle, and had a lucky escape.

In the process, the robber who pointed the gun at her ostensibly had his hand twisted and had to drop the weapon inside the car to save his life.

The woman, who did not notice the gun had been dropped in her car, raced to a police checkpoint at Arab Contractors along the Enugu-Port Harcourt road, with the robbers in a hot chase, before they eventually disappeared when they realized the pursuit was no longer safe.

Policemen at the checkpoint who examined the car after hearing her stunning tale found a Titan pistol bearing number 249539 loaded with two live ammunition, which was taken into custody.

A senior police officer at the Enugu State police command, who spoke with Scudnews on condition of anonymity, confirmed the incident. He said detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) were on the trail of the robbers.
