Bus Driver Arrested For Traffic Offense Slumps, Die In VIO Office

A distraught commuter bus driver who was arrested by officials of the Lagos State Directorate of Road Traffic Service, also referred to as Vehicle Inspection Office, VIO, succumbed to a suffocating burden shortly on arrival at the agency’s office.

Adukwu Joshua, driver of the bus registered SMK465 XS had over the years, toiled daily for survival. On Wednesday, March 16, 2022, he was playing his trade along the Agege Motor Road in Lagos when he was arrested at about noon by VIO officers at National Bus Stop and taken to their office at PWD in Ikeja where his source of livelihood –the bus was impounded.  

What momentarily ran through his mental landscape on arrival at the office remains unknown, but Joshua slumped a few minutes later and lay stone dead.

Scudnews could not obtain further details on the deceased bus driver whose sudden collapse and death threw VIO officials at the scene into confusion.

It was learnt that a VIO official at the PWD office identified Mr. Oladigbolu Sulaimon later reported the incident at the Ikeja police divisional headquarters at about 1.30pm on the same day.

A source confided in Scudnews that following the report, a team of policemen which was drafted to the scene evacuated Joshua’s body to the morgue at Mainland General Hospital Yaba, for autopsy.

The police described the incident as a sudden and unnatural death on which an investigation is ongoing.

Scudnews could however not reach authorities at the Lagos State VIO for reactions on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
