An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday remanded a 28-year-old mechanic, Olamilekan  Bisiriyu, at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly being in possession of firearms.

Bisiriyu, whose residential address was unknown, is being charged for conspiracy and possession of firearms.

The magistrate, Mrs K.A. Ariyo, who ordered the defendant’s remand also refused to take his plea.

Ariyo directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPPs) for legal advice.

The magistrate adjourned the case until March 1 for mention.

The prosecutor, Insp Christopher John, alleged that the defendant was found to be in possession of two live cartridges when he was arrested.

The defendant could not give a convincing explanation of how he came about them, the prosecutor said.

John told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on Jan. 23 at 3.00 p.m., on Kazeem Yeka Street in Egbeda, a suburb of Lagos.
