FG Insincerity Responsible for Prolonged ASUU Strike -VC Gernah

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]The Vice Chancellor of the University of Mkar, Gboko, Benue State, Professor Dick Gernah has said insincerity on the part of the Federal government is responsible for the prolonged strike embarked on by the Academic Staff Union of Universities(ASUU).

Professor Gernah made this assertion during a telephone chat with Scudnews, on Tuesday when he spoke on the turnout of events in the on-going negotiation between the Federal government and officials of ASUU.

The Vice Chancellor, said the Federal government’s insistence for inclusion of lecturers in the Integrated Personnel Payment Internal Systems (IPPIS) is ill intended as it is meant for Civil servants and not suitable for Institutions.

He argued that if these proposals are implemented, it would make it difficult for funds to be generated to cater for extra-curricular activities including lecturers who occasionally visit other institutions for different engagements.

Professor Gernah, noted with dismay that if ASUU is to concede to these agitations, tuition fees would have to be increased with a view to meet other internal obligations and as such, parents and guardians will suffer for it.

“If care is not taken, other corporate organizations will soon join the strike as workers in the Oil sector are also threatening to down tools over the Federal government’s  inability to meet their expectations”.

According to him, “Our Challenges as institutions of higher learning are enormous and don’t  require any restrictions”.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
