Free Abuja Train Rides Begin May 28 For 2 Months -Wike

Residents of Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, would enjoy free train rides for two months beginning from Tuesday, May 28, going by plans by the Federal Government.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, stated this on Thursday, at the ongoing ministerial press briefing at the Radio House, Abuja, to mark President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office.

He said the Abuja light rail would be inaugurated by the President on Monday, May 27 and the free ride will commence on Tuesday.

Wike urged residents to make use of the metro rails from Tuesday, as it was aimed at easing commuting for residents.

He further hinted on the possibility of the President extending the free train rides to six months as part the gains of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for the residents of the FCT and its environments.

The Minister also said the FCT Administration will begin the construction of 10,000 affordable housing units tagged the Renewed Hope City from 2025.

He said, “For those who are saying that the rail system had already been commissioned, don’t make a mistake. What was earlier commissioned was the building. What we want to commission on Monday is commercial operations”.
