A teenage girl who plotted and faked being in captivity of kidnappers, says she committed the act to raise funds and elope from home to a distant location from where her mother and family members who insisted she studies medicine.

However, the 16-year-old girl whose identity is being kept under wraps by the police in Ekiti State, where the incident occurred, has told investigators, that she conspired with the others to commit the crime to actualize her dream of becoming an actress.
She said she opted for the plot with the insistence of her mother that she studied medicine in the university contrary to her dream of becoming an actress.
Thus, the teenager who is a student of Christ’s School, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, left home for school on Monday, June 14, she did not return home but rather checked into a hotel in company with her accomplices.
After fruitlessly searched for her till the next day, one of her family members, Bolaji Femi, a resident of Bawa Estate, Ado-Ekiti, was said to have reported the development to the police on Tuesday.
Apparently oblivious of the fact that the incident had been reported to the police, an accomplice in the plot allegedly picked a call put by apprehensive family members to her mobile phone.
Then, the family got a shocker when told by the receiver of the call that the young girl had been abducted and demanded payment of a ransom of N500, 000 for her to regain freedom. A bank account number was also allegedly provided for payment of the ransom.
But the plot was busted on Thursday, June 17, when the police tracked the owner of the bank account number and arrested him.
Thereafter, the police stormed their hotel hideout and arrested three suspects including the teenager and her boyfriend.
Following their arrest, she reportedly sang like a canary in police custody, stunning detectives with her confession as she gave a graphic account of how the failed plot was hatched in her bid not to study medicine.
Sunday Abutu, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, ASP, and spokesperson for the Ekiti State police command, confirmed the incident on Saturday.
He said the account owner, who is also a friend to the girl’s boyfriend, led operatives to a hotel in Ado-Ekiti, where the supposed victim, her boyfriend and other accomplice were apprehended.
