Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has formally joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He picked his membership card on Friday at the party secretariat in Benin City, the state capital, amid fanfare.

The governor had resigned from the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) on Tuesday after a protracted battle for the political soul of Edo State with his former ally and national chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomohle.

The development came a few days after Obaseki was disqualified from contesting the APC primaries to seek re-election for a second term on the platform of the APC on grounds of alleged defects in his educational certificates.

Obaseki had expressed lack of confidence in the processes of the gubernatorial primaries, and indicated his intention to pursue his political ambition and seek re-election on an alternative political platform.
