Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno on Saturday donated building materials and cash to  1,111 displaced families in the state.
Beneficiaries of the materials are from 25 villages in Jere Local Government Area (LGA) of the state.
The displaced families fled their homes to take refuge in Maiduguri, following pockets of attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents in the last three years.
Zulum, known for his efforts in resettling Internally Displaced People (IDPs), donated the materials and cash at a brief ceremony in Yawuri village in Jere LGA.
He said the materials will enable beneficiaries to reconstruct their homes, get empowered and become self-reliant.
The governor reaffirmed his government’s continued commitment towards ressetling the IDPs back to their homes in a dignified manner.
He also assured the resettled communities of the necessary support to boost access to farming and other socio-economic activities in Lake Alau agrarian communities.
Zulum said a new school and a hospital will be built in the community to enhance access to quality education and healthcare services.
Speaking earlier, Alhaji Mustapha Gubio, the Commissioner for Reconstruction, Resettlement and Rehabilitation (RRR), said that the benefiting IDPs are those who have indicated their interest to return to their homes.
He said that the resettlement process will be implemented in accordance with the humanitarian principles due to improved security in the area adding that the displaced families were selected for self-reconstruction empowerment under the ministry to enable them reconstruct their homes by themselves.
He added that each of the displaced persons will be supported with cash which will serve as a resettlement package to enable them to engage in meaningful activities.
