The Village head of Odu Community in Nasarawa Local Government Council of Nasarawa State, Amos Ewa Obere has been killed by gunmen.
The ugly incident which took place on Friday night at about 10pm, has since left relatives of the Late Village head and members of the Community in fear.
A source close to the deceased family who pleaded anonimity, said the gunmen stormed the Community late at night, shooting sporadically to scare the people and headed straight to the palace where they shot the Chief.
“When they arrived at the Community, they went straight to the palace and dragged the Village head out and told him that your days on earth have finished, then they fired bullets on him, before people could rushed down to know what was happening, they have ran away”
According to the Source, the victim had serious injury in his stomach as a result of the gun shot, adding that he died on the way to Mararaba Udege General Hospital for treatment.
When contacted, a former Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists in the State, comrade Joel Ogapa, who is a relative of the deceased Village head, said the incident has further caused fear in the people of the area.
Ogapa who frowned at the security situation in Nasarawa Local Government area, said “I have not been home in the last two years because of the high level of insecurity”.
He called on the State Government and security Agencies to redouble their efforts in the bid to address the problem of insecurity in the area.
All efforts to reach the State Police Command spokesman, Rahman Nansel, for comment at the time of filling this report proved abortive.
