Gunmen Kill Senior Police Officer, Injure 2 Others In Plateau

An Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) identified as John Shiklam has been shot dead by armed men suspected to be Fulani militias at Kwi village in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

A witness said the superior police officer (SPO) who was the officer in charge of Patrol and Guards (P &G), was reportedly killed while at a spot close to the village. The gunmen carted away his AK-47 rifle.

Scudnews learnt that he had led a team of policemen on duty when the gunmen suddenly emerged and fired at them, killing the ASP while two others sustained gunshot injuries.

The incident occurred at about 10.pm on Tuesday, May 25.

Names of the two police officers who sustained gunshot injuries were given as Sgt Mohammed Abubakar and Corporal Bushidong Danjuma, both of whom were rushed to the Plateau Specialist Hospital for treatment.

ASP Shiklam’s body was also deposited at the morgue of the hospital for autopsy.

The state police command said efforts to track the perpetrators have been intensified.
