NAF, AIB Speak On Plane Crash Involving Chief Of Army Staff, Others

Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Accident Investigation Bureau, Nigeria, Akin Olateru, has confirmed that a military plane, Beachcraft 350 aircraft, carrying the newly appointed Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru, to Kaduna has crashed at the Kaduna International Airport on Friday.

According to the AIB chief, the incident claimed all eight souls onboard including the Chief of Army Staff.

This newspaper gathered that the ill-fated aircraft crashed at the airport’s runway at about 6 pm, while trying to land, amid heavy rainfall.

The Nigerian Air Force has also confirmed the incident.

The force confirmed this in a statement by its Director of Public Relations and Information, Edward Gabkwet.

It tweeted, “An air crash involving a @NigAirForce aircraft occurred this evening near the Kaduna International Airport. The immediate cause of the crash is still being ascertained. More details to follow soon”.
