Nasarawa Gov Appoints Channels TV Reporter, Addra, CPS
…As NUJ President Warns Members against Extortion

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule has approved the appointment of a broadcaster, Ibrahim Inuwa Addra, as his Chief Press Secretary.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Lafia, Sule said the appointment of the new media aide was as a result of his administration’s desire to strengthen the public service towards effective service delivery.

The statement indicated that the appointee who hails from Doma, Doma Local Government Council of the state, was, until his appointment, a Correspondent of the Channel Television in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory. Addra’s appointment takes effect from July 1.

Addra commenced his Journalism career after graduation from the Nasarawa state Polytechnic, Lafia. He had worked with various media organizations including the state-owned broadcasting station, Nasarawa Broadcasting Service. He also served as Press Secretary to the late Aliyu Akwe Doma, when he was governor of the state between 2007 and 2011. He is married with children

Meanwhile, National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Chris Isiguzo, on Wednesday in Lafia, Nasarawa State, warned Journalists in the state to shun extortion in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking during the biannual conference of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nasarawa state Council, Isiguzo, who was represented by the National Vice President Zone D, Chief Wilson Bako, emphasized that extortion from newsmakers was against the ethics of the profession.

He noted that as a noble profession, media practitioners should always abide by the rules guiding its practice, warning that any practitioner caught violating the ethics would be sanctioned.

Isiguzo, who commended Journalists in the state for the peaceful conduct of the election, charged the new executive to avoid every forms of sentiment and embrace all members.

While appealing to Journalists in the state to comply with the COVID-19 protective measures, he urged the new leadership of the Council to accord the welfare of its members a top priority

In his remarks, the state Commissioner for information, Culture and Tourism, Dogo Shammah, who applauded members of the union for the successful conduct of the election, assured that the state government would continue to partner with journalists in the bid to move the state to greater nights.

Dogo admonished journalists to engage in developmental reportage, as the era of pull-down syndrome was over.

At the election which was conducted at the instance of the National Assistant Secretary of the NUJ, Bengal Daniel produced, Comrade Salihu Mohammed Alkali of Precious FM and Sunday John of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) emerged chairman and secretary respectively of the state council.
