Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has relieved the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Tijjani Ahmed, of his appointment over alleged financial malfeasance. The act was said to have been committed when the sacked SSG served as Commissioner for Education in the last administration.
Sule’s action followed a recommendation of the state House of Assembly.
The Lawmakers had during their sitting last Tuesday, deliberated on the recommendations of an ad-hoc committee which was constituted to investigate the former SSG’s roles in the award of contract for renovation and building of public secondary schools when he was Commissioner for Education, and asked the governor to sack him over unaccountable funds to the tune of about N300million.
In a statement on Monday which was signed by Abubakar Hamza Gayam, Permanent Secretary, Government House and made available to newsmen, Governor Sule directed the SSG to immediately vacate his office and handover all government properties in his possession to the Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs and Special Services in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.
He thanked him for his support during the last one year of the APC-led administration of the state.
