The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Bauchi State has embarked on a three-month training of 100 undergraduates and school dropouts in animal and crop production.

Mr. Inuwa Adamu, Assistant Director, Rural Employment Promotion Department (NDE), told neswmen in Bauchi on Wednesday that the training was initiated under the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme of NDE.

”The programme is in line with the Federal Government’s policy on agriculture for employment, food sufficiency and wealth creation. The purpose is to equip trainees with modern methods of agricultural production. The practical aspect of the training will be based on cattle and sheep fattening. This scheme entails training unemployed youths, from dropouts up to tertiary level. It is aimed at making them imbibe modern methods of agricultural production,” He said.

Adamu said the first two weeks of the training would be used for theory, while two and a half months would be for practical. “We have 100 beneficiaries on the ground who were fairly selected across the 20 local government areas of the state,” he said.

Adamu said serious and punctual trainees would be selected and assisted with a loan to establish their businesses. “Those who might not be lucky to be resettled by NDE would still be given certificates that will help them to approach the Bank of Agriculture or NIRSAL Micro Finance Bank for financial backup.”

Mr. Sulaiman Abubakar, Head of Department, Special Public Work, NDE, Bauchi, said that the directorate, under its Environmental Beautification Training Scheme (EBTS), had selected 40 unemployed youths to be engaged on environmental beautification training for three months.

He said the beneficiaries would be effectively engaged in landscaping and interlocking, among other things. “We will engage them in environmental beautification. Two individuals were selected from each of the 20 local government areas of the state. They would be given the sum of N6,000 as transport for the said period to ensure easy transportation from their various residences to their places of training.”
