Oro Worshippers, Church Members Clash During Night Vigil In Lagos

An alleged attempt by a group of traditionalists known as Oro worshippers to halt an ongoing night vigil at a church in Lagos resulted to a clash in the wee hours of Tuesday, August 23, during which an Oro worshipper was reportedly stoned to death.

A group of persons reportedly moved to set the Church ablaze but for the swift intervention of the police following a distress call at about 6.am.

Scudnews learnt that trouble started when the Oro worshippers who were performing their sacrament while a church –Truth and The Spirit Prophetic Church located on No. 2 Sanni Taiwo Lawal Street, Popooshola, Oko-Oba in Lagos, were also holding a night vigil.

The Oro members, according to sources, went to the church and ordered the members to close the service, leading to a melee during which a 25-year-old Oro worshipper identified as Agboola Akeem allegedly lost his life.

Following a distress call, police patrol teams were said to have been dispatched to the scene while the body of the deceased was evacuated to the morgue of an unnamed hospital for autopsy.

The police said the pastor of the church whose name was given as Mercy Okocha and nine of her members were arrested as investigation continues.
