Homicide detectives at the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command are battling to resolve the puzzle surrounding the sudden death of a Chief Superintendent, CSE, of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, John Inyama, who allegedly committed suicide on Monday, July 1.
Mr. Inyama reportedly killed himself with a single barrel gun inside a bathroom at his residence on J83D off Road 6, Kabusa Garden Estate, Dakwo, Abuja in the afternoon.
Scudnews learned that his colleague, Attoe Effah, also a Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, reported the incident to the divisional police officer, DPO of the Apo police Division at about 4.20pm.
Police detectives who were drafted to the scene reportedly forced the door to the bathroom open and found Mr. Inyama lying unconscious on the floor in a pool of blood.
The detectives were said to have recovered a single barrel gun found by his side and evacuated him to the National Hospital Abuja where he was certified dead by a medical doctor. His body was deposited at the morgue of the hospital.
Sources familiar with late EFCC top operative described him as unassuming, reserved and religious. He hailed from Plateau State and left behind a wife and children.
The circumstances of his sudden death, sources said, is baffling amidst questions as to whether it was a case of suicide or murder, even as the Police said it had recorded the incident as a case of suspected suicide while investigation continued.
Spokesperson for EFCC, Dele Oyewole, could not be immediately reached for comments on the incident.
