Serial Bag-Snatcher Meets Waterloo in Abuja, Gets N.5M Bail in Court

A 32-year-old man who indulges in snatching handbags on the streets for a living has been slammed with N.5million bail at a Grade One Area Court in Abuja.

The long arms of the law caught up with Abdulalahi Mohammed on Thursday, February 18, when he was arraigned before the court sitting at Nyanya, a suburb of the nation’s capital.

 

Mohammed was docked after one of his victims, Hassana Bobboi, reported his alleged criminal act to the police at Utako Division of the Federal Capital Territory Police command.

The prosecutor, D.F. Abah, told the court that when a search was conducted on the defendant, the police recovered another handbag belonging to Zainab Hassan, containing an identification card, Automated Teller Machine card and a N12, 000 cash.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 292 of the Penal Code, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Yahaya Sheshi, admitted him to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one reliable surety in like sum and adjourned the case till March 9 for hearing.
