Twitter Ban: FG Tackles UK, US, EU, Others, Summon Envoys

Following a joint statement by the United Kingdom, Delegation of the European Union (EU), United States (US), Canadian Government, Republic of Ireland, Kingdom of Norway and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the ban on Twitter operations in Nigeria, the Federal Government has summoned envoys of the countries.  

The missions had in a joint statement at the weekend, expressed dismay on the ban.

Earlier, the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria had in a statement in response to the Twitter ban, declared the ban on as an infringement on the rights of Nigerians to freedom of expression. 

But in a swift reaction, Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister for Foreign Affairs, summoned the envoys to a meeting on Monday, June 7, at Tafawa Balewa House, Abuja.

The agenda for the meeting could however not be ascertained at the time of filing this report.
