The Presidency has said the non-transmission of power by President Muhammadu Buhari to his deputy, vice president Yemi Osinbajo, was not in breach of the nation’s laws.
Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the president on Media and Publicity, said on Tuesday on Channels Television, it was unnecessary for Buhari to transmit power before jetting out of the country on Tuesday, since his visit to London for medicals was for a short time.
He said Buhari will continue to superintend over affairs of the country from wherever he was offshore, emphasizing that he did not contravene any law by not transmitting power to the vice president while away for a number of days.
“The requirement of the law is that the president if going to be absent in the country for 21 days and more, then that transmission is warranted. In this particular instance, it is unwarranted”, Shehu said.
The presidency had announced that Buhari was expected to return from his medical trip in the second week of April.
