Benue State police command, on Wednesday, confirmed the release of the two students of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi identified as; Salifu Solomon Idoma, student in the department of engineering, Bala Abdul Okema, a student of the school of post graduate studies who were earlier kidnapped by unknown persons.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Catherine Anene, who confirmed their release in a statement made available to newsmen in Makurdi, said the students were released unhurt. She however said investigation into the incident continues, but no ransom was paid to secure their release.
The two Students regained their freedom after spending five days in custody of their abductors. They were abducted on Saturday 24th April,2021 while they were studying at a lecture theater in the school.
Meanwhile, Head, Information, Protocol and Public Relations of the University Mrs. Rosemary Waku confirmed the development in a telephone conversation with newsmen. She gave the names of the students as Israel Farren Kwaghgee and Solomon Salihu, who were released yesterday.
Waku however, declined to say if ransom was paid before they were released, amidst reports that the abductors had demanded a whooping 20 million naira. “Yes the student have been released and they are undergoing medical treatment”, Mrs. Waku said.
