COVID-19: Nasarawa Govt Distributes More Palliatives

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has flagged off another round of distribution of COVID-19 Palliatives to Vulnerable people in the 13 Local Government Councils of the state.
Speaking at the occasion in Lafia, on Tuesday, the Governor said the commodities which were donations from Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID), was part of its support to complement Government efforts in cushioning the effects of hunger during the  period of the pandemic.
Sule, who commended the Coalition Against COVID-19 (CACOVID) and other philanthropists for their humanitarian support that is aimed at assisting the vulnerable groups in the society, assured that the state government will continue to provide succour to the vulnerable households and indeed, the poorest of the poor across the state.
According to him the commodities will be shared across the one thousand, four hundred and ninety-five (1,495) polling units in the State, adding that the items would be shared only to the poorest of the poor who have no source of income to cater for their daily needs.
He cautioned that salary earners, businessmen and other privileged people in the state would not be part of the sharing formula.
The Governor explained that the palliatives distribution Committees at the Local Government, wards and polling units have been re- strengthened to ensure transparency in the distribution of the palliatives, assuring that the State Steering Committee on COVID-19 will ensure strict supervision and keen monitoring of the distribution process.
Sule who warned that the Palliative Committee at all levels will be held accountable for any anomaly in the distribution process, charged the committees to justify the confidence reposed in them.
Earlier, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Aliyu Ubandoma, said the Palliatives which comprises of 21,000 bags of rice,43, 246 cartoons of  lndomie, 240 bags of Sugar, bags of Salt and groundnut oil, among other Commodities would go a long way to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
