Drinking Competition For 50 Bottles of Alcohol Claims 25-year-old Poly Student

A bizarre competition for a winner in the consumption of 50 bottles of Action Bitters, a wine coloured full-bodied spirit, has claimed the life of a 25-year-old man while his co-contestant is said to be in critical condition at a medical facility.

The duo Agboola Toheeb Segun and Jamiu Opeyemi, both students of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, reportedly staked 50 bottles of Action Bitters, a drink containing 40 percent of alcohol for the drinking competition at about 10.am on Friday, April 1.

Unfortunately, neither of the contestants emerged winner in the competition which turned out to be a race to the world beyond for Segun, aged 25, while 20-year-old Opeyemi lays prostrate at Omololu Hospital, Iree, where doctors are battling to save his life.

The police said 20 empty bottles of Action Bitters were recovered by a team of operatives drafted to the scene of crime on receipt of a report on the incident.

A senior police officer at the headquarters of the state police command who craved anonymity hinted Scudnews that while Opeyemi was responding to treatment at the hospital, Segun’s body has been handed over to his parents on request for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

He said an investigation on the incident is ongoing.
