Police detectives are probing into the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of an academic, Professor Ado Ahmed, a staff of the Institute of Agricultural Research, IAR, Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, Kaduna State.
Prof. Ahmed, a resident of Zango-Shanu, reportedly went to 5G Bakery along Samaru-Sokoto road, Zaria to purchase some loaves of bread on Friday, November 11, but had yet to return home as of the time of filing this report.
A source familiar with the incident disclosed that a review of the Closed Circuit Television, CCTV recording at the bakery by a team of police detectives who visited the scene following a report, was puzzling.
“When we reviewed the CCTV recording, it showed that the Professor went into the bakery alone, bought bread and came out alone but his car was found abandoned in the parking lot of the bakery”, a security source who does not want his name mentioned, told a Scudnews reporter on Sunday.
He added that calls put across Prof Ahmed’s mobile telephone number rang out without a response.
It was learnt that tracking of his phone pointed the location to be within Unguwan Halilu Danguziri, in Makarfi Local Government Area of Kaduna State, an area along the Zaria-Kano Highway.
A relative of the victim, Abdulsalam Yusuf, reported the incident to the police at Samaru, Zaria, at about 8pm on November 11, hours after he vanished from the bakery.
It has not yet been ascertained if he was abducted or not, but the police have declared him missing.
