Police Escorts Go Haywire At Sokoto Airport Over Ex-Gov Yari’s Largesse

Three police officers at the Zamfara State Government House attached to a former governor of the State, Abdul’aziz Yari, displayed a show of shame at the Sultan Abubakar 111 International Airport, Sokoto, Sokoto State, when they allegedly battled Aviation security personnel for their share of a monetary gift.

 The cops were said to be part of the security escort team of ex-governor Yari, who had before boarding his flight for departure, offered the largesse to the Aviation security men on duty.

However, his police escorts who were eager to partake from the gift allegedly broke into the gate at the protocol parking lot of the airport and assaulted Aviation security personnel in an attempt to forcefully collect their share from the security personnel in possession of the money.

The incident occurred at about 11.35am on Friday, January 27.

In the melee that ensued, three operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, who had intervened to calm the situation were also assaulted and seriously injured by the policemen who had gone haywire.

Three of the policemen involved in the brawl were identified as Sgt Manir Ibrahim, Sgt Salisu Rabiu and Sgt Aliyu Biliyaminu.

 The police said the three cops were arrested and have been detained for investigation and necessary disciplinary action.
