Police in Bayelsa State are battling to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of two teenagers in a hotel room in Amassoma, Bayelsa State

The deceased, male and female, were identified as Marvelous Anikwe, aged 17, and 18-year-old Funkere Akpone.

Both were said to be students of the Niger Delta University (NDU) and had reportedly lodged in a hotel – Love and Arts Suites, located at Weneama Quarters in Amassoma, Bayelsa State, on Saturday, August 30.

Curiously, the undergraduates suspected to be lovers, were reportedly found dead the next day in their room with blood in their mouths and noses. Reports further indicated that there were blood stains on the bed, but no mark of violence on their bodies.

Sources at the Bayelsa State police command headquarters hinted Scudnews that a report on the incident was made at about 3.pm on Sunday, August 31, by the proprietor of the hotel who was simply identified as Mr. Bayefa, following which the corpses were evacuated and deposited in an unspecified morgue.

Asinim Butswat, a Superintendent of police and spokesperson for the Bayelsa State police command could not be reached for comments at the time of filing this report, as repeated calls to his mobile phone at about 6.30pm on Tuesday, rang out without a response before it was eventually switched off.

However, a top police officer at the state command headquarters who pleaded anonymity confirmed the incident. He said the NDU authorities had been notified, while detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) had commenced investigation.    [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
